Military Service: Served with the 10th Lincolns as part of the Grimsby Chums in WW1. He was seriously injured at the Somme in a forward listening post by a rifle grenade attack a few weeks before the big push. Whilst convalescing in hospital he heard of the massive casualties sustained - 15 Officers and 487 men, out of 1000; killed, missing or wounded.

World Archery Championships:

  • 1936 Prague - 11th Individual, 5th Team. Highest finishing English archer and top England Team scorer.
  • 1946 Stockholm - 32nd Individual, 5th Team.
  • 1948 London - 45th Individual.

A Brief History of Brocklesby: Our most reliable spectator! His war wounds prevented him from playing his favourite game, He became British Archery Champion twice, he won more Public Meetings than any living man; he shot for England in Prague, Copenhagen and London, and was President of the Lincolnshire Naturalists trust. He farmed in his spare time.
